Sleep when I die...

Man it seems as if my body is on system over load.  I'm sitting at the Camp again today, slanging animal hats.  Business is good but I feel like I need some rest.

But how much rest is good rest??  You ever get a week off work and or go on vacation?  Before you know it, the week has past or you are on a plane flying back home.  What happened to the time?   Now I believe we all need vacations from time to time, it keeps us happy and balanced, but this goes out to anyone taking too many of them.

Now if you have already made something of yourself, or already retired then go for it, take as many vacations as your heart desires, cus when the time comes for me, i'll be in Greece or Costa Rica for a LONG time.

Customers just got to the shop.  to be continued....

Holiday Season

I'm sitting at home, having a red wine / cranberry sprizzie getting ready for my most favorite holiday.  Christmas!!

I find it funny that this holiday has become my favorite over the years.  Especially as much as I like to party, you'd think Halloween, 4th of July, New Years, etc would be my favorite.  But nope, its Christmas.  Theres something about the air, the lights, the wine, and cheese balls that just bring a smile to my face.

It seems like Thanksgiving is a time for giving, and then the day after you get a whole month of giving, laughter, fun songs, and Christmas spirit.

My house is decorated right now and I also light my candy cane scented candles first thing when I walk in my house every night.  This post is to encourage you to do the same.  Get in the spirit!  Whether you're Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, or whatever, put smile on your face, drive to the snow, make a snow man.

Buy a candle and light it every night.  Maybe go to church, make a new friend (and yes, I hate to break it to all you none believers out there, we celebrate Christmas because of religion, but that's a whole nother subject i'd rather not get into)

Anyways jingle all the way!  Back to Monday night football and wine.  Two of God's greatest ideas.

Selfish bad thing or good thing?

I find it funny that for my entire life I have associated the word selfish as being a bad thing.  You hear all the time "don't be selfish, you're selfish, he/she is selfish, Kobe Bryant is selfish (lol)"

Now Dave Matthews said "you got to give before you can begin to live"  and I couldn't believe with him more.  There is something about giving that really make you feel good.  It makes those rainy days sunny and the bad days good.

One of the reasons I chose to be a paramedic.  So I could give back.  Its pretty indescribable when you meet a 90 something year old Jewish lady that is a Holocaust survivor, and shes sick as hell and telling you about how bad she hurting at the very moment.  And she says "thank you sir"  Thats why I do what I do.

But back to being selfish.  Bad or not?  I actually like to think of myself as one of the most selfish people I have ever met.  And quite frankly i'm very proud of that.  I live for me, I do what I want to do, and I try to not let anyone or anything get in my way.

I have set goals for my life, and if I wasn't selfish and living for me, some of those dreams might not come true.

Luckily giving is one of the things I like to do.  So I guess some many say thats me not being selfish, but if you turned the table and someone asked me not to do that, I wouldnt listen to them, then again I would be selfish.

So  my thought and advice to many is to be more selfish.

Live for yourself and no one else.

What a strange trip its becoming

Well this is my second post.  I'm sitting outside of my very first retail shop today.

Retail is about the last thing in the world that I thought I would do.  But life is all about taking chances, coming up with good ideas and making moves.  I'm thankful enough to have met wonderful people in my life to help make some of these good ideas reality.

But how the hell did I get here?  Sitting alone in the Camp shopping center, writing on my laptop, and loving every second of it.

Well I guess maybe I should introduce myself to people that don't know me personally and re introduce myself to those of you that do and maybe fill some people in that haven't seen me in a long time.

I grew up in Irvine with an amazing family.  Typical Irvine family, everything except the white picket fence.  Mom and Dad still married I think 32 years now. (You guys rock).  I was a competitive swimmer growing up, played soccer, and the works.  Had many amazing friends, most of which i'm still very close with.  Went to Mater Dei High School hated it, then loved it.  Then went to OCC and majored in Oceanography, then fashion design, then business, and communications (typical, yeah just get me outta school, i'll major in comm)  I transferred to Cal State University Long Beach.

While going to Long Beach State I started throwing parties for extra money.  My very first event was at Khoury's in Long Beach, it was called Beach House, and to this day still one of my favorites.  However I don't know if you could beat the Lodge.  And the Lodge takes me to my next adventure, the Social Group.  I started a company called the Social Group, with my event competition actually and one of my best friends Dave "Dickboy" McMillan.   Woops forgot one thing, Dave McMillan and I started some 80s night called the 80s Whitetrash Disco which is still going on every Tuesday in Newport at the Blue Beet.  I think its been 7 years or so now.  Ok back to the Social Group.

The Social Group was a great ride, we did many events all over OC, LA, Vegas, and even a few in San Diego.  I never thought that I could make living doing what I love to most, and that's socializing.  But I did, our small company grew, then grew some more.  I probably did over 1000 events in 5 years.

Dave unfortunately died of a drug overdose when he was 26 and will forever be missed.  I wish he was here today for than anything.  I was always tough guy when it came to him, but deep down I still hurt all the time.  Theres a picture of him in my room that i often talk to.  He changed a lot of things for me.  Lifes too short.

During my time at the Social Group I met a girl that I thought at the time was the woman of my dreams.  Most people know her, or at least know of her.  We grew closer and closer and eventually my dreams became reality and I asked her to be my wife.  We decided that socializing for a living and doing special events wasn't gunna be a good idea for the future family that we had planned on.  I got married in August of 2008 and left the Social Group in April 2009 in search of a new journey.  One for myself and my new family.

Growing up I always had a fascination with medicine and first aid.  I also was looking for an adventure.  So why not combine both?  Firefighter paramedic is what I decided I wanted to do.  So I went to EMT school, became and EMT and started working full time on an ambulance.  Now that was a trip!  Full time event promoter to full time EMT.  Well I did that for a while then began paramedic school.

Shortly after paramedic school began my wife and I, for reasons I probably will never know split up.  Most people in life hate their ex wifes for what ever reason.  And to be honest I feel like I have many reason why I could and should.  However life is too short, and everything happens for a reason.  Kelli and I are still friends and i'll always love that girl!  Why?  I'll tell you.  I wouldn't be here writing this blog if I was married still, I wouldn't know the people I know now if I was still married, and my life I feel is about to turn into one HELL of a ride.  I wanna fly and now I can!

So I finished paramedic school in July and now I have started my clinical portion of the program.  I helped deliver two babies a week ago, been helping people in their hardest times and making a change in people lives.  Now I thought EMT was a trip.  Watching a baby take their first breath is insane.  Will that baby be lucky enough to sit where I am right now? Will he/she be the president?  What does God have in store for them?   Do you ever trip out on that?  I do.

So why am I writing a blog?  Maybe to keep track of whats going on in my life?  I guess.  I also like to share my journey with others.  oh wait I haven't told anyone about my journey yet.

Well I decided about a month ago it would be cool to open up a retail store for the holidays, and now i'm sitting in front of it.  I decided to become a paramedic over a year ago and i'm almost one.  What does God have in store for me?  I have no idea.  So my journey, I couldn't tell you right now.  I thought i'd be married with a kid right now, and i'm not.

What I can tell you though, is that I have changed the way I think over the last few years, the way I treat people, and the way that I act.

I'm positive almost always, always moving forward having experiences and chalking them up as experiences that the Universe intended us to have whether good or bad.

I like to make people think, especially about their lives.  So often I hear sad stories and no one doing anything to make their lives better.  Think positive.  Thoughts become things, thoughts become reality.

Well its almost time for my shop to close for the night and I'm not a writer either, so my thoughts are beginning to become jumbled.

This is my second blog entry, introduced myself a little, and I hope to share more of my life and thoughts with you soon.  Probably tomorrow.

I'm Matt Meddock.  Nice to meet you......

My first blog

Hello all,

Well this is my first blog ever.  I have never made one of these, however my brain is running almost full time and I think I have some cool things to say.  Life is full of loving, laughing, and living.  I figured I would share some of my thoughts.

Life is too short to not be positive all the time...as someone I look up to very much says "thoughts become things"
